Rhenium is not only a very rare metal, but its mining is also more of a by-product of ore mining or the extraction of Mansfeld copper shale. The largest rhenium deposits extend into Chile, Canada and the United States. Thus, there are many reasons to return already extracted rhenium to the value cycle through re-use. By recycling rhenium, we protect the remaining rhenium deposits and their mining areas and stop the destruction of flora and fauna habitats.
A high energy input is necessary in order to mine the ores containing rhenium and extract the rhenium afterwards. With our special rhenium recycling process, we offset this additional energy expenditure since far less energy is required to recycle rhenium than to mine new rhenium ores.
